The cyclobutano-fused series (CyB5CB[5], CyB6CB[6]) offers excellent solubility in both water and alcohols. Unlike water-only systems, these materials are easier to use in water/alcohol mixtures, coating formulations, composite processes requiring an organic co-solvent, and specific chromatographic and materials-processing workflows. The rigid cavity and carbonyl portals remain unchanged, so recognition behavior is comparable to the parent homologues—ideal whenever the host must stay dissolved in mixed media.
Storage, Solubility, and Handling Guidelines
- Store sealed, dry, and protected from light at room temperature. For long-term storage, keep at 2–8 °C under dry conditions.
- Cucurbituril powders are slightly hygroscopic. Reseal immediately after use and record the batch number and opening date.
- Solubility tips: CB[7] and the modified series dissolve directly in water. For CB[6], first dissolve in formic acid or DMSO, then dilute into the target solvent system.
- Filter stock host solutions and use them fresh; for binding experiments, record buffer composition, ionic strength, and pH.
