Technical notes on CB[10]

CB[10] has the largest cavity in the series (≈870 Å³, portal ≈8.9 Å) and can host bulky guests such as proteins, peptides, dendrimers and nanoparticle surface ligands, supporting macromolecular encapsulation, supramolecular nanomaterial assembly and protein-surface recognition. Because isolation is difficult, CB[10] is commonly obtained and characterised in the literature as the CB[10]·CB[5] inclusion complex; account for how that included guest affects cavity availability when designing experiments.

Storage, Solubility and Handling Notes

Store sealed, dry and protected from light at room temperature; for long-term storage keep at 2–8 °C under dry conditions.
Cucurbituril powders are somewhat hygroscopic — reseal promptly after use and record the batch number and opening date.
Solubility tips: CB[7] and the modified series dissolve directly in water; for CB[6], dissolve first in formic acid or DMSO, then dilute into the target solvent system.
Filter stock host solutions and use them freshly prepared; for binding experiments record buffer composition, ionic strength and pH.
