Technical notes on CB[10]

CB[10] has the largest cavity in the series (≈870 ų; portal ≈8.9 Å) and can host bulky guests such as proteins, peptides, dendrimers, and nanoparticle surface ligands, enabling macromolecular encapsulation, supramolecular nanomaterial assembly, and protein-surface recognition. Due to isolation challenges, CB[10] is commonly reported in the literature as the CB[10]·CB[5] inclusion complex. When designing experiments, account for how this included guest affects cavity availability.

Storage, Solubility, and Handling Guidelines

  • Store sealed, dry, and protected from light at room temperature. For long-term storage, keep at 2–8 °C under dry conditions.
  • Cucurbituril powders are slightly hygroscopic. Reseal immediately after use and record the batch number and opening date.
  • Solubility tips: CB[7] and the modified series dissolve directly in water. For CB[6], first dissolve in formic acid or DMSO, then dilute into the target solvent system.
  • Filter stock host solutions and use them fresh; for binding experiments, record buffer composition, ionic strength, and pH.
  • These materials are for research use only and must not be used in humans, food, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or clinical diagnostics.
  • Batch-specific purity, water content, and spectral data are available upon request prior to ordering.
